It's called fate. I went on a mission for one nail polish – a darkish green, maybe an emerald or possibly a jade, any would suffice. It's my color this holiday season. Every single shade of green had been sold from the shelves, I was devastated. It was Mid-November how could I be this late. Reaching on the bottom shelf in the very back was one last green, this green, off tropic - how fitting for Christmas in Miami. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Agree that color is too dark and you can barely tell that it is green. My main objection to this color though, is that it is nearly impossible to get off even with the best nail polish remover.
I've always preferred Essie polishes but maybe this was a bad batch of a very dark color!

Hello Lisa33. Thank you for sharing your experience with our off tropic. We wish you could see the results you were hoping for with the color 'off tropic'. This color should be a very deep grove green. Deep shades have lots of pigment so you want to use plenty of polish remover. Soak your cotton pad well and let is sit on the nail while you count to 20. This should soften all the polish so you can slide it all off with your pad. Wipe away from the cuticle, toward the tip so you don't stain the skin. You will likely go through more pads removing a deep shade, vs. a lighter shade.

I love dark green, and I have some other essie shades of green, none of them have this specific issue. Whenever you attempt to wipe it off or clean up your mistakes, it stays on your skin til you scrub your skin with acetone. I had to reapply 9 times and I ended up drying out my nail and cuticle with acetone because this literally stains your cuticles and skin.

Hello reubenbasey! Thank you for sharing your experience with the color off tropic. We can see this wouldn’t be the result you were hoping for… When removing polish, especially intense, deep shades, the skin around the nail can easily be stained. To prevent this, soak your cotton pad in polish remover and press it gently onto the nail. Wait 5-10 seconds, then wipe downwards to the tip of the nail. Never rub back and forth—this will expose the skin around the nail to pigments.

I don’t usually wear nail polish but saw this color and took a chance and I love it! I suck at painting my nails and it comes out nice and smooth anyway. It’s a little bluer on the screen than it is in person, it’s more of a deep pine green which is lovely.

Turns out, I love darker colors on my hands more than. I thought I would. It elongates the fingers by directing the eye to the nails. And this one is a winner! I love how it morphs from near black to a deep lush forest green. It’s my new go to neutral.

As an Essie diehard with many dozens of colors, I'm pretty loyal to a couple old standby shades already. But Off Tropic might be my new go-to. It's super rich and luxe looking, and the fact that it's so dark and glossy means that one coat is enough. In fact, if I'm wearing another color and it starts to chip, I'll paint a coat of Off Tropic over it and it really camouflages imperfections underneath amazingly well.
I also didn't realize how versatile this shade would be. It's not so dark as to be mistaken for black, but it's also not too loud for even stuffy work environments. Plus, this deep green is a great seasonal color for both winter (Christmas!) and summer (tropical!)

I love Essie polish and I have never used one and had it stain my nails. It wasn’t my whole nail either it was just the edges. Still a beautiful color and I will continue to use it!

This shade is so perfect and exactly what I've been on the hunt for! A very tricky colour to find in stores!! I have wanted this colour for my nails since I saw Lola from Gossip Girl sporting it in one episode. Totally in love with the colour, and planning on making it a permanent staple for myself, my go to, I'll be known as the girl with green nails. Thank you thank you, please always keep this colour as part of your collection. I will cry if it ever gets discontinued.

I ordered this item last week and I have to say I was super excited when it arrived because I fell in love with the gorgeous color shown in the photo. I am a dedicated Essie nail polish fan and I was somewhat disappointed when the bottle didn’t look to be the right shade. Nevertheless, I decided to try it out and it appeared almost black on my nails. Even in bright sunlight, the shade barely hinted at the green color shown above. I was very disappointed with the color and I am hoping maybe I just got sent a bad batch. However, it was still upsetting.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Off Tropic is an absolutely gorgeous shade of green, it's a perfect match for the famous British Racing Green which I'm sooo in love with. I was over the moon happy when I discovered Essie had added it to the permanent collection! Great idea, Essie! This is a beautiful, classic green color that would look great on most women of many different skin tones, ages, and styles! Also, it's totally opaque in one coat with a beautiful, buttery formula. So perfect.

I got this color as soon as it came out, I have been searching for a green that I actually like for ages and Off Tropic fits the bill. I have a love/hate relationship with most greens, I like them but not for everyday wear. I bought Mojito Madness to do a Halloween Nail art and haven't touched it since. I put on Off Tropic the day that it came in the mail and fell in love. I love the darkness of the polish but it is still a distinct green. I added a bit of Set in Stones around the tip of my nail and it is gorgeous, I got compliments on my nails all day long. Definitely one of my top five favorite Essie colors.
